Ypsilanti is gearing up for the 2009 Heritage Festival this weekend.

Food, fun and excitement are planned throughout Riverside Park, Depot Town and downtown Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

One of the highlights of the 31-year-old festival is the parade, scheduled for 10 a.m. Saturday.

Organized by the Ypsilanti Area Jaycees, the parade will start at Ballard Street on Michigan Avenue. It will then head east on Michigan Avenue through downtown and turn right on Huron Street.

The parade will continue north down Huron Street until it turns left on Cross Street and heads west, until it finally ends on Washington Street.

There are 77 entries in this year’s parade, including bands from Lincoln, Willow Run and Ypsilanti schools.

The Ypsilanti Citizen partnered with Pakmode Publications, who produce emYOU! The Magazine, to produce a special print publication for the event.

The 16-page tabloid-format publication will be available throughout Ypsilanti businesses and several locations throughout Washtenaw County. The tab will also be handed out at the festival itself, including during the parade.

Printed in full color, the tab features 11 articles highlighting events and activities happening during the festival. There is also a full map and schedule of events.
