Stakeholders in Ypsilanti Public Schools are inviting members of the community to join them in a rally for public school funding on Wednesday.
The rally, organized by the Save Our Schools Task Force (SOS!), will take place in Lansing at 1:45 p.m. though the group from Ypsilanti will be meeting locally before hand.
YPS Board of Education Trustee Kira Berman had fliers on hand at Monday night's board meeting, which highlighted expected cuts to per-pupil funding from the state and the possibility of school closures in the district as it attempts to cut more than $6 million to eliminate its deficit.
The group will be meeting at the Ypsilanti High School parking lot at 11 a.m. to create signs and make carpool arrangements before it heads off to Lansing together.
The rally will begin in Lansing Center and march to the State Capitol, where a call to action will be delivered by SOS! Chair Tom White. After the rally, organizers are hoping to have the opportunity to lobby state legislators.
For more information, e-mail Berman at kira.berman@gmail.com, Board Vice President Linda Horne at lhorne@ypsd.org or deeclimer@yahoo.com.
