The Ypsilanti Board of Education announced Wednesday that they will consider three candidates for the position of superintendent.
Dr. Sandra Harris, superintendent of Oak Park schools and Dedrick Martin, director of equity and achievement at the Champaign, Ill. unit 4 school district, were both part of the first round of applicants and may not be interviewed again.
Dr. Sarena Shivers, director of curriculum for Southfield public schools, is the only candidate from the second round of applications under consideration.
The board voted Monday to consider five candidates, however, according to Dr. Michael Emlaw, who is assisting the district in its search, two of those candidates asked to be taken off the list.
Shivers is scheduled to formally meet with the board on August 3. Having already interviewed them, the board plans to setup informal meetings with Martin and Harris. Emlaw said all three candidates would likely meet with Ypsilanti community members and YPS staff members as well.
