Ypsilanti Public Schools is holding a public forum next week for its superintendent search.
The forum is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. March 11 in room 138 of Ypsilanti High School.
Dr. Michael Emlaw, a search consultant with the Michigan Association of School Boards, will be facilitating the event. All members of the Ypsilanti community are invited to attend.
“Essentially we’re asking people to help us draw up the ideal profile of the new superintendent,” Emlaw said. “The Board will use the input to guide them in selecting applicants to interview and they will also use it to evaluate the candidates after they have been interviewed.”
The Board of Education released a timeline for the hiring process in January and is accepting applications until March 20. It plans on having the position filled by July 1.
Applications have started coming in, according to Emlaw, but the Board will not actually see them until the March 20 deadline. The applications are being collected at the Michigan Association of School Boards.
The new superintendent will replace Dr. James Hawkins, who has been filling in as interim superintendent since 2005, following the departure of David Zuhlke.
