Administration set to announce reduction plans Thursday

The Ypsilanti Public School's Board of Education has scheduled a special meeting next week to hear the proposed restructuring plan from the administration.

Scheduled to take place at 7 p.m. Thursday in the high school auditorium, the meeting will lay out plans to reduce budget costs through school closings and staff layoffs.

The plan has been anticipated since the board approved a deficit elimination plan for the state in December that highlighted a deficit of more than $6 million that needs to be cut to bring the district back to a balanced budget, which is required by state law.

After the presentation is made Thursday, the board will vote on the matter on its following regular meeting, scheduled for March 22.
