Arrest warrant issued for man believed to be armed and dangerous

By Dan DuChene
Jan. 27, 2009    ·    11:58 a.m.

Eastern Michigan University Police have identified the suspect involved in the armed robbery that occurred on campus Friday.

Michael Allen Johnson, 20, has been issued an arrest warrant, EMU police said in an e-mail issued to the community today, for armed robbery and a felony firearm violation.

He is suspected to be the person who brandished a weapon in EMU's Sellers Hall while robbing four victims in the lounge at 2:23 a.m. The timely warning issued by police hours later said there were three or four assailants according to witnesses.

After stealing money, jewelry and a jacket from the victims, the report said Johnson and the others told the victims to stay in the lounge and fled in an unknown direction.

"Johnson is not an EMU student", today's report said, "and we believe he is staying somewhere in the Detroit area. He should be considered armed and dangerous."

The information released by police today said Johnson is suspected of carrying a black revolver hand gun. It said his last known address is on Hubbard Street in Detroit, and is known to frequent the west side of the city, near Linwood & Grand.

The other two suspects in the case have not been identified.

Anyone with information is asked to call the EMU Tipline 734-487-4TIP or 734-487-4847.
