An Eastern Michigan University student was robbed of his cell phone this morning as he walked down Perrin Street.
According to a “timely warning” issued by the EMU police, the unarmed robbery occurred at 1 a.m. on the 300 block of the street, where the student had been walking down the sidewalk and texting.
Timely warnings are issued to students and staff at EMU when certain crimes occur on or off campus.
“The suspect grabbed his cell phone and punched him in the head and ran off south toward Emmet Street,” the statement said.
Police said the victim’s injuries were not serious.
He described the suspect as an 18-year-old light-skinned African American standing 6 feet tall with long dread locks. He was wearing blue jeans, a light-colored tee-shirt and a red baseball cap turned backward.
