The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating a fatal collision in Ypsilanti Township that killed an unidentified female.
According to a release from the WCSO this morning, the incident occurred at 7:10 p.m. Sunday on Michigan Avenue near Wiard Road. The WSCO, Ypsilanti Township Fire Department and Huron Valley Ambulance responded to the scene.
The release said the unidentified woman was found dead in the road when first responders arrived on the scene. She was killed when she was struck by a 2003 Ford Windstar van, which was driven by a 17-year-old Ann Arbor resident.
“Initial indications are the [van] was traveling east-bound on Michigan Avenue, east of Wiard Road, when the female was suddenly in the roadway,” the release said. “The driver attempted to swerve, but could not avoid the collision.”
The female killed in the collision is described as a white adult.
The WSCO is asking that anybody who may have witnessed the incident to call the department’s traffic division at 734-973-4482 or confidential tip line at 734-973-7711.
