A 17-year-old Ypsilanti Township woman was killed in a single vehicle accident on Textile Road near the Big Pine subdivision Saturday afternoon.
The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Department reported aggressive driving appeared to be a factor of the crash that killed Lakisha Smith. Investigators believe the driver, who was going westbound, attempted to overtake another westbound vehicle when she lost control of the vehicle and ran off the roadway to the south striking several trees.
Ypsilanti Township Fire Department had to extricate the four occupants of the 2004 Oldsmobile Alero.
Smith, who was reportedly wearing her seat belt, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The three other passengers were transported to St. Joe Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The case is still under investigation by the County Traffic Unit.
