A 48-year-old Ypsilanti Township resident was struck and killed by a train this morning.
The victim, Richard Dimon, was reportedly mentally and physically disabled. He was walking west bound on the tracks near Ohio Street when he stumbled, became entangled in the tracks and was unable to get up according to a news release from the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Department.
A caregiver who was accompanying the victim attempted to pull him off the tracks but was unsuccessful.
Rescue units made it to the scene at approximately 11:05 a.m. First responders discovered a Norfolk Southern train had struck and killed
This case is still under investigation by the WCSO Traffic Unit.
