Two Eastern Michigan University were reportedly held at gunpoint and forced to drive to area cash machines to withdraw money early this morning.
According to a timely notice distributed by EMU police, the incident occurred at 12:30 a.m. near the corner of Cross and Ballard streets.
The notice said two EMU students told police they were leaving a party in the 500 block of W. Cross Street, when they drove behind a store and realized there was no exit to the main road. This is when the suspects said an unidentified suspect jumped into the backseat with a silver revolver.
The two students reportedly told police the suspect then forced the driver to visit different cash machined and withdraw money for him out of the passenger’s bank account.
“The gunman then told the victims to drop him off in the 2000 block of Washtenaw [Avenue],” the release said. “Neither victim was injured in the incident.”
Police said one of the students described the suspect as an African American male dressed in all black, wearing a black ski mask.
Anyone with information related to the incident is asked to contact the YPD at 734-483-9510.
