Fraud suspect arraigned
Robert George appeared for arraignment on Thursday for a 25-count felony warrant for swindling $700,000 out of Ypsilanti Township residents alone.

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Detective Kevin Parviz alleges George was selling condominiums in the Crystal Ponds Condominiums development, but pocketing deposits, construction payments and other fees for personal use.

The investigation began in 2005 and the charges include obtaining money under false pretenses in excess of $20,000, larceny by conversion and fraudulent use of building contract funds.

Parviz named 30 people who have lost their life savings because of the scheme.
George has sought the protection of the U.S. Bankruptcy Court to avoid having to return the $20 million toal he allegedly stole.

George was released from arraignment with a $500,00 cash surety bond and pretrial is scheduled for December 16 at the Washtenaw County Circuit Court

Armed robbery
A man was robbed at gunpoint outside his home in Ypsilanti Township on Thursday morning.

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 2600 block of Woodruff Lane at approximately 6:45 am. for an armed robbery that had just occurred.

The victim reported that he was walking to his truck when he was approached by a man who pulled a gun and demanded money.

The suspect fled on foot with a large amount of cash.

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a straight winter coat, dark pants, dark gloves, dark tennis shoes, black ski mask and a dark-colored gun.

Burglary
Miscellaneous household items were stolen from an Ypsilanti Township home on Thursday.

Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 9800 block of Joan Circle where it was discovered entry was gained through the front door.

Suspects are unknown at this time.
