Police follow footprints in snow, catch burglar

Strong arm robbery
A woman was struck in the head and robbed as she got off an AATA bus in Ypsilanti Township Monday night.

At approximately 8:10 p.m., Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to Ford Boulevard and Parkwood Street, where the victim was hit by an unknown suspect.

The suspect fled the area with a “Dora the Explorer” bag containing a laptop, a purse and a phone. Because the attack happened so fast, the victim was unable to get a look at the attacker.

The victim received minor injuries. No suspects are known at this time.

Strong arm robbery
A woman’s purse was snatched out of her car while she was getting ready to leave a store in Ypsilanti Township Monday.

At approximately 8:40 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 200 bock of Ellsworth Road in Ypsilanti Township, where the victim reported she was exiting a store and saw a black male watching her.

When she got in her car the man reached in the car across her body before she could shut the door and grabbed her purse sitting her passenger seat.

The suspect fled on foot north through the parking lot. No injuries were received.

The suspect was described as 5 feet, 7 inches tall weighing 150 pounds. He was clean shaven and wearing a black knit hat with a blue and white sweater.

Possession of cocaine
An 18-year-old Ypsilanti Township man was arrested for possession of a loaded handgun and suspected crack cocaine early Sunday morning.

At approximately 1:55 a.m., deputies were dispatched to the 600 block of Cuyaga Street for a suspicious car in the street.

Deputies located the vehicle with six occupants. The driver was transported to Washtenaw County Jail on the charges.

He was arraigned on Monday and remains at the WCJ on a $10,000 bond.

Burglary
Ypsilanti police officers were able to apprehend a thief who had broken into a woman’s apartment by following his footprints in the snow back to his home.

At approximately 1 p.m. Monday, officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Michigan Avenue, where the burglary had just occurred. The victim reported she had left her home for a short period of time, and saw the suspect leaving the area of her apartment when she returned.

When she went inside she discovered her home had been burglarized.

Officers dispatched to the area followed the suspect’s footprints back to his apartment on Summit Street. He initially denied involvement, but the stolen property was discovered in his home.

He was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.
