Battle Creek man robbed of prescription at gunpoint

Assault and battery, parental kidnapping, phone tampering
A 39-year-old Van Buren Township man was arrested for assaulting his girlfriend and kidnapping her 2-year-old daughter on Sunday.

At approximately 7:25 p.m. Washtenaw County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1100 block of Desoto Street in Ypsilanti Township for a disorderly complaint.

Before deputies arrived, police said the victim’s boyfriend had come to her house and attempted gain entry by kicking in the front door. When that failed, he broke in through a back window and attacked the victim.

Police said the suspect then grabbed the victim’s 2-year-old daughter and fled out the front door.

The victim followed the suspect out the front door and jumped into the bed of the pick up truck as he pulled away.

Deputies located the pick up truck with all subjects inside.

The victim received minor injuries and the baby was unharmed.

The suspect will be arraigned later today.

Armed robbery
A man was robbed at gunpoint in Ypsilanti on Saturday.

Ypsilanti Police officers were dispatched to the 100 block of Grove Road at approximately 2:30 p.m. where a man form Battle Creek visiting his family had just been robbed.

The suspect, who the family called “Ernest” and was said to be a friendly acquaintance, was talking with the victim when he pulled a gun and demanded the victim’s prescription.

The victim gave him his prescription to Oxcontin.

Police were able to locate the suspect and he was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

Burglary
A television was reported stolen from an Ypsilanti Township home on Saturday.

At approximately noon, deputies were dispatched to the 1400 block of Chestnut Drive where someone had broken in through the front door.

No suspects are known at this time.

Home invasion
Police arrested a man trying to break into a home in Ypsilanti early Saturday morning.

Ypsilanti Police were dispatched to the 400 block of Madison Street at approximately 4:55 a.m. for a report of a burglary in progress.

The caller told the dispatcher she was hiding in her closet and the burglar was trying to get in the house.

Police arrived and found the burglar crouching down in the backyard. Upon seeing the police he ran and was captured several houses away.

It was discovered that the suspect had tried to get in through the back door before breaking out a vent in a basement window.

He was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail.

Auto theft
A car was reported stolen from a home in Ypsilanti on Sunday.

Officers were dispatched to the 1900 block of Washtenaw Avenue where it was reported a car was stolen during the night.

The victim said he had a 9mm pistol, MP3 player and clothes in the car.

No suspects are known at this time.
