Ypsilanti Police announced Sunday the arrest of a 24-year-old Ypsilanti man, a suspect in a case of criminal sexual conduct that occurred on the 200 block of North River Street in Ypsilanti.

A 22-year-old woman contacted police, according to a YPD news release, saying she was sexually assaulted by a friend's roommate at about 3 a.m. Thursday.

After investigating the matter, police arrested Thomas Jeffrey Webber, Ypsilanti resident, as he was leaving his residence at about 2 a.m. Saturday.

Webber will be arraigned today, according to Ypsilanti Police Lt. Craig Annas, on two counts of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree, felonies punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

The two counts, Annas said, both involve the same victim but occurred under different circumstances.

Webber has been lodged in the Washtenaw County Jail on a $5,000 bond awaiting trial.

Home invasion
The owner of a home on the 500 block of North Hamilton Street in Ypsilanti reported to police Saturday afternoon that the house had been broken into.

A window was forced open to gain entry and miscellaneous electronics were stolen from inside the home, police reported. The homeowner reported leaving Friday night and police assume the break-in occurred between then and when the resident returned home Saturday.

The investigation is ongoing into the break-in, but police have not yet reported any suspects in the case.

A woman contacted the Ypsilanti Police at 10:56 p.m. Sunday and reported that a man she knew had just broken out her car windows on the 600 block of North Huron Street.

Upon arrival at the scene, officers arrested the suspect, a 45-year-old man, for malicious destruction of property.

Window broken at party
Ypsilanti Police arrested a 22-year-old man Saturday for malicious destruction of property, after party-goers at a house on the 500 block of Washtenaw Avenue reported the man threw a bottle through a window of the house.

Witnesses told police that two party-goers were being disorderly and were asked to leave. After this, both began throwing glass bottles in the air and one of them threw a bottle through a window.

The two suspects were chased and caught by others at the party. Upon arrival of police, one of the suspects was taken to the hospital due to intoxication and the other was arrested.
