Victor Roache Jr., a senior outfielder for Lincoln High School Baseball, signed with Georgia Southern.
Roache signed his letter of intent today at the Lincoln Athletic Office. Roache decided on Georgia Southern over other local choices — Michigan State University and the University of Michigan.
He said location was a major factor in his decision, even though it means his father won’t be at all the games.
“It will be weird — him not being there, but I have always wanted to play down south,” Roache said. “It has always been a dream of mine; I don’t mind getting away from Michigan.”
Roache’s father believes that his son will benefit from playing in the south.
“They can throw outside in February,” his father said. “Being down south will enable him to put a lot more time in working on his game.”
Smiling he said, “I already know I will be buying a Slingbox to watch all the games.”
Roache’s father said he feels his son deserves this opportunity.
“I am very proud, he worked hard and had the self discipline to get where he is today,” he said.
Lincoln Baseball Head Coach Carlos Lozano said he always knew Roache had a chance to accomplish great things.
“Vic has tremendous talent, he definitely is a division-I baseball player,” Lozano said.
Playing on varsity his freshman year, it didn’t take Roache long to catch the attention of college scouts. As a sophomore he earned first team all-conference and district honors, along with second team all-area. He followed up his junior year with honorable mention all-conference and area.
His senior year is still Roache’s main focus. He has lofty goals as a leader for the Railsplitters.
“I want to relax and not put pressure on myself like last year,” he said. “I also want a district championship.”
Georgia Southern is located in Statesboro, GA and is a division I-AA school. It belongs to the Southern Conference.
