“Never say die” would be a great description of the Lincoln Railsplitters Volleyball team. Lincoln, who played host to the District Semifinals, lost to the Adrian Maples in a best out of five format Wednesday. The final scores were 20-25, 17-25, and 23-25. The Railsplitters never quit, mounting comebacks of at least seven points in all three games.

Lincoln fell to a 0-8 deficit in the first game. Head Coach Katrina Napier called a timeout and her team responded. Rallying to make it a 19-22 game, the Maples held off the surging Railsplitters.

In the second game Adrian built an early 12-5 lead. Lincoln again showed great effort in tying the game at 13, then taking their first lead of the night at 14-13. The Maples regrouped during a timeout and held off the surging splitters.

The third game started off much like the first; Adrian quickly led 7-0. Lincoln once again called a timeout and chipped away at Adrian’s lead. After still being down 7-14, Lincoln battled and gained the lead at 15-14. Adrian, showing the resilience they had all night, outlasted Lincoln in the most exciting game of the three.

Adrian will play Airport in the District final at Lincoln High School, Friday at 7 pm. Airport beat Monroe in the earlier semifinal.
