Early Railsplitter leads not enough to win match

By Josh Curmi
Sep. 30, 2009    ·    5:00 p.m.

Despite early leads in the first two games the Lincoln Railsplitters lost to the Tecumseh Indians Tuesday night.

The final scores for the three-game match were 25-21, 25-21 and 25-13. Taking an early 3-1 lead in the first game, things looked good for the Railsplitters. The Indians countered with seven straight points to take an 8-3 lead. Lincoln battled back and took the lead at 14-13 with senior Megan Marchildon’s kill.

With the score tied again at 19, Tecumseh scored six out of the last eight points to win the game.

The second game followed suit with the first, Lincoln took an early lead at 11-8, and later senior Erin Moffett’s spike down the middle gave the team a 16-14 lead. Tecumseh battled and the score was tied at 19 once again.

The Indians pushed the score to 23-20, forcing the Railsplitters to call a timeout. Lincoln managed to score one more point, but couldn’t hold off a confident Tecumseh team.

That late rally seemed to carry over into the final game.

The Indians came out re-energized and Lincoln seemed to lose a step, falling behind 16-7. Head coach Kathy Moran called a timeout trying to rally her team but Tecumseh was too strong.

Lincoln scored two straight points coming out of the timeout to make it 16-9, but couldn’t get any closer.

Lincoln’s next game is on the road against Chelsea Tuesday, October 6, and their next home date is October 20 against Adrian.
