The Midwest Sliders of Ypsilanti lost 5-4 to the Gateway Grizzlies Wednesday night.
With a four run lead going into the sixth inning, the Grizzlies scored five runs in three innings to win the game.
Zack Pace hit a leadoff home run in the first inning followed by Robbie Knapp’s single that scored Roberto Mena and Clay McCord.
The Sliders (25-27) took a 4-0 lead with Joash Brodin’s solo home run in the sixth inning.
The Grizzlies (22-31) scored a run in the sixth and seventh inning, to make it a 4-2 ballgame.
In the eighth, the Grizzlies scored three runs to complete the comeback. Joe Agreste hit a triple scoring Charlie Lisk and pinch-runner Jareck West to tie the game. Danny Morrow hit a sacrifice fly to put the Grizzlies up 5-4.
Mike Penn started for the Sliders receiving a no-decision. Penn allowed two runs in 6 2-3 innings. P.J. Zocchi (2-2) pitched the eighth inning and gave up all three runs.
Grizzlies’ starter Mark Brackman threw a solid eight innings. Brackman (3-6) allowed two earned runs on seven hits and struck out eight. Joel Boeschen pitched the ninth for his third save of the season.
The Sliders come home to start a three game series with in-state rival and the division leading Kalamazoo Kings Thursday at Oestrike Stadium. First pitch is at 7:05 p.m.
