After beating the Florence Freedom 11-1 on Saturday, the Sliders kept the bats going winning Sunday 17-6. The Sliders had 19 hits; five of them were home runs.
The Sliders jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second inning, with Gilberto Zayas then a RBI double from Robbie Knapp.
Florence would tie the game in the bottom half of the inning thanks to a Tim Grogan two-run homer.
Sam DeLuca would give the Sliders the lead back with a two-run single. Florence would answer again with a Justin Pickett hit a solo home run, making it a one run game.
Knapp hit a solo home run in the fifth to give the Sliders a two-run lead once again, only to be matched by the Freedom for the third straight inning in the bottom half.
An eight run sixth inning broke the game open. A three-run homer by Jimmy Baker, a two-run double from Bryan Bonner, and Ben Barrone’s solo home run highlighted the inning.
DeLuca wasn’t finished; his eighth inning grand slam slammed the door, putting the Sliders up 17-6. DeLuca went 4-6 with six RBI’s on the night.
Jeff Fisher, who pitched three innings in relief for the Sliders, recorded his first win of the season.
Monday will be the Sliders first day off in three weeks. They will be back home at Oestrike Stadium Tuesday, with a doubleheader against Lake Erie. The first game will start at 5:05 p.m.
