A 16-year-old Lincoln High School student was killed in a car accident in Ypsilanti Township this morning.
The information is according to a report from the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.
The Augusta Township teen, who was pronounced dead at the scene, was the passenger of the vehicle. The driver, a 24-year-old Augusta Township resident, is in critical condition at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
The accident occurred at 8:45 a.m. on Whittaker Road, near Sea Mist Drive, when a 1999 Pontiac Grand Prix crashed into a tree. Police said the vehicle was traveling north on Whittaker, ran off the road and struck the tree head-on.
The case is still under investigation, but police said, “The lack of seat belt usage appears to be a factor.”
