Lake Erie edged Midwest by two runs in both games of a double header Tuesday night. The Crushers took the first game 6-4 and the second 3-1.
In both games, the Sliders threatened by bringing the winning run to the plate but couldn’t deliver.
A triple by John Rivera and a home run by Andrew Davis in the first inning of the first game put the Crushers up 2-0. Davis’ next at bat in the third inning would end in the same result, with a solo shot to right and a 3-0 lead for Lake Erie.

The Ypsilanti Board of Education unanimously approved its 2009-2010 budget Monday night, with an anticipated budget shortfall of more than $3.7 million.
In accordance with state law, the district will be required to submit a deficit reduction plan. The district expects to file the plan after a financial audit by Plante-Moran is finished.
In the weeks leading
up to Monday night’s meeting, the district held a number of public input sessions regarding the proposed budget. The district had expected to face a deficit of approximately $1.4 million with possible cuts to personnel, the elimination of some field trips and reduction of staff hours.

After leaving his mother in a house fire, a 43-year-old Ypsilanti Township man was shot and killed during a confrontation with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 12:10 a.m. Sunday, a witness reported a home on the 1200 block of Pageant in Ypsilanti Towship was on fire and that one male suspect was seen leaving the premises with a gun. The caller also stated that they believed that the suspect's mother was still in the home. Responding Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office Deputies encountered an individual at the intersection of Wendell and Redleaf fitting the description of the suspect leaving the house fire. The interaction resulted in an officer-involved shooting. The suspect was transported to St. Joes Hospital where he was later pronounced deceased. No officers were injured.
At the scene of the house fire on Pageant, a 66-year old female Ypsilanti Township resident, was found deceased. Foul play is suspected in the woman's death. The Michigan State Fire Marshall is investigating the house fire, while the Michigan State Police is investigating the woman's ...read more
