Friday’s arrest not believed to be ‘actual shooter’

The warrant for the 17-year-old Ypsilanti resident arrested for his alleged involvement in Friday night’s shooting was denied Sunday.
Ypsilanti Police Chief Matt Harshberger said the suspect has not yet been arraigned and the Washtenaw County Prosecutor’s Office has recommended the subject take a polygraph test.
He also said the case is still under investigation, as a second suspect, believed to be the “actual shooter,” has yet to be arrested.
“We will… want to name the second suspect's identity if we cannot locate him in the next day or so,” Harshberger said.
Ypsilanti police said they arrested the first subject Friday night after a reported shooting near the southeast corner of Cross and Ballard streets. The only suspect arrested, he was transported to the Washtenaw County Jail to await his arraignment.
Police said the only victim, a 32-year-old Ypsilanti resident, suffered a gunshot wound to his left arm and a flesh wound to the left side of his stomach area. He was treated at St. Joseph Hospital and later released.
According to a report issued by the department Saturday, “Officers made contact with numerous witnesses that observed a group of subjects involved in an altercation,” after responding the scene at approximately 6:30 p.m.
The report said the incident “led to one suspect producing a gun and firing shots at the victim.”
