Ypsilanti's West Middle School was on "lock down" this afternoon after Washtenaw County Central Dispatch received a call of a suspicious person in the woods behind the school in Ypsilanti Township.
The caller reported seeing a person carrying a long gun of an unknown type. The initial call came in about 10:30 AM.
Deputies responded to the area to investigate—including the on-scene school resource officer.
While deputies investigated the validity of the call, the school was placed on lock down for about 2 hours, as a preventative measure. There were no reports of assaults, threats with weapons, or any other violent acts. At no time was the school under siege.
The school resource officer tracked footprints in the snow to a nearby residence. Additional deputies assisted the school officer with making contact at the residence. The deputies were able to make contact and two individuals are currently being questioned.
