Suspect arrested for trying to disarm police officer

A 62-year-old Ypsilanti man was arraigned Tuesday for operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated and causing serious injury, in connection to an incident that occurred Saturday, where a 31-year old Belleville resident was seriously injured after being struck by the man's vehicle.

Washtenaw County Sheriff Office deputies responded to the traffic crash at 3:15 a.m. Saturday on East Michigan Avenue near Wiard Road in Ypsilanti Township, and discovered that the victim was struck by a 1980 Chrysler 2-door while attempting to cross East Michigan Avenue, west of Wiard Road.

The driver of the vehicle, Donald Ronald Oates, was said by deputies to be operating under the influence of suspected intoxicants and was arrested and lodged at Washtenaw County Jail.

The victim is currently listed in critical condition at an area hospital, according to the WCSO.

After his arraignment, Oates was remanded to Washtenaw County Jail with a $7,500 bond. His pre-trial is scheduled for May 26.

Man charged after attempt to take officer's gun
A 22-year-old man was arraigned Tuesday for attempting to disarm a police officer after approaching a WCSO deputy from behind Monday morning and attempting to take his firearm.

Deputies responded to a report of a fight in progress at 12:20 a.m. Monday on the 7100 block of Indian Wells Drive in Ypsilanti Township. The WCSO reported that while trying to gather information at that location, the suspect, Adrian Correa, came up from behind one of the deputies and tried to take his firearm.

Correa was arrested and lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail. After arraignment, he was remanded to the jail with a $10,000 bond. Correa has a pre-trial scheduled for May 27.

18-year-old arrested for home invasion
A WCSO deputy responded to a report of a home invasion at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday on the 1100 block of Rue Deauville Boulevard in Ypsilanti Township.

The WCSO reported that a known subject entered the residence through a sliding glass door and took two debit cards. That suspect, an 18-year-old Ypsilanti Township resident, was later arrested and lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail. He was arraigned today, the WCSO reported.

Parts stolen from parked cars
Ypsilanti Police officers reported two incidents Monday in which catalytic converters were stolen from parked vehicles sometime Sunday night.

One such incident was reported at 12:10 p.m. Monday by the owner of a vehicle parked on the 800 block of Pearl Street in Ypsilanti. The second incident was reported at 1:20 p.m. Monday by the owner of a vehicle parked near the intersection of College Place and Washtenaw Avenue in Ypsilanti.

Catalytic converters were stolen from both vehicles, and the Ypsilanti Police Department has not yet named any suspects in the crimes.

Woman arrested on multiple warrants
A 30-year-old woman was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants at 5:30 p.m. Monday, the WCSO reported, when a deputy responded to the report of a disorderly subject on the 1100 block of Levona Street in Ypsilanti Township.

Upon arrival at the address, the deputy discovered that the woman, April Joy Fleming, had four outstanding warrants for her arrest through both the Washtenaw and Wayne county sheriff's offices.

Fleming, whose warrants included larceny from a building, false pretenses, larceny, and driving while license suspended, was arrested and lodged at the Washtenaw County Jail.

Burglary
WCSO deputies were dispatched to the 1000 block of East Michigan Avenue in Ypsilanti Township at 2:45 a.m. Tuesday for a burglary alarm.

The deputies reported the front window was smashed and speakers and amplifiers were reported stolen. The suspects in the burglary are described as two unknown masked men dressed completely in black.

Burglary
A home on the 1700 block of Jeff Street in Ypsilanti Township was broken into, the WCSO reported after visiting the home at 5 p.m. Tuesday for a burglary complaint.

Entry was gained, deputies said, through the window sometime Tuesday morning, and a Playstation, watches, jewelry, shoes and clothing were all reported stolen. No suspects have yet been identified in the break-in.

Breaking and entering
A vacant home was reportedly broken into on the 7200 block of Cyprus Pointe Drive in Ypsilanti Township, according to WCSO deputies who visited the home at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday for a burglary report.

Entry was gained by cutting the screen and opening a sliding glass door, the WCSO reported, but no one was home and nothing was taken. A possible vehicle of suspects in the incident is described as a silver Ford Escort with tinted windows, according to a report by the WCSO.
